“Innovative” really is the “synergy” of this decade

August6

I just heard this phrase on a commercial “the next time you’re looking for a writing utencile look for innovative products from Bic.”

Really? I’m surprised that Innovation is such a big deal in the writing utencils industry. And by looking at Bic’s financials over the last few years I noticed that there was no r&d line in their expences… I wonder where all the money for innovation comes from?

Be careful marketeers, of you use a word too much for non-applicable reasons, it starts to lose all meaning and might even become a joke… Just like some other word we all know.

That reminds me of my Econ prof, back in early 2000 (just before the NASDAQ tanked), bemoaning the dot-com bubble… “If you’re an underwear company that sells your products on the Internet, you’re still an underwear company!” It’s all in the subtleties, I guess, but that’s marketing for ya.
