Enter Slugman

Monday, December 25th, 2006

I need a cape because this kind of transformation is only one seen in superhero comic books. I went from crazy-working, ultra-stressed-out, no-fun-dude to super-lazy, ultra-relaxed, party-animal at around Noon on Tuesday (this past week).

The case competition was hell (as expected). I didn’t make the finals and have no idea how well I did—all I know is that it’s over and I feel good.

Nothing else to report. I’m putting off doing any of the work for next term for as long as possible. I’m going to try and get back into my gym schedule which took a big hit towards the end of exams. Other than that I’m just playing a lot of Zelda and catching up with friends.

Merry Christmas.

Exams done (sort of)

Friday, December 15th, 2006

For starters: This quarter’s exams were WAYYYYYYY harder than last quarter.

All that I have left (exam wise) is my MCV take home which is due tomorrow at 2:00. I’ve written up my paper and done all the exhibits but I worked on it for 9 hours today so I think it’s pretty crappy right now. Tomorrow morning will be spent editing and possibly rewriting if I wake up and realize that I could have written a better paper drunk… Hey, it’s happened before.

There’s also the case competition on Monday/Tuesday.

I’m really looking forward to the break, unfortunately my todo list has 8 items already. ugh.

Since I’m just relaxing right now watching stargate I’ll give you a quick recap of my feelings about various parts of the first 2 quarters.

Classes:

Very interesting in general. I’m already an order of magnitude better at assessing biz problems and understanding what’s important and what’s not. The bad part is that it’s probably still not good enough.

My favorite courses: Strategy (or what I like to call “Applied Economics”), FIT (interesting discussions), and Econ (so well taugh).

My least favorite courses: MCV (mainly because I didn’t like the structure of the course), Stats (for the same reason as MCV), and Accounting (because it’s so boring and the final exam was brutal :) ).

Most motivating moment: Reading the 30 page Dell case for class and just picking out things that are important. Wow, I learned something!

Most demotivating moment: I’m going to cheat and give two—1. Having to redo the stats paper SO MANY TIMES. It was kind of our own fault but it was very demotivating; 2. Organizing a social event to find that almost no one is going. The main problem is that everyone is so busy but it still sucks to put a bunch of time into something only to have no one enjoy it.

Most stressful: The first 2 weeks of Q1 where you question if you can hack it or not.

What kept me sane: My 1 hour break every night to watch stargate :)

What I wish I did more of: Enjoyed Toronto and all it has to offer. I still feel like a visitor in this city since I’ve barely done anything other than school.

Ok, this stargate episode is over—Dannel Jackson just “died.” It’s just not the same without DJ :( .

Feeling a little burnt out

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

The last 3 weeks have been pretty rough and I’m feeling a little burnt out. The stats project has been the bain of my existence. We’ve run into so many problems with the data analysis that we’ve ended up going back and doing the whole thing 5 times–each time with different assumptions and results. If I’ve learned anything its that I don’t like runing statistical studies/probably should avoid doing them in the future. :)

The most annoying thing of all is that the Stats paper is only worth 20% and I’ve sunk sooooooo much time into it.

Tomorrow is our big presentation on the stats paper but that shouldn’t be too much of an issue and our Accounting paper is virtually done. Things are looking good, except *GASP* EXAMS! (Shrieks are heard in the background)

I have a little time tonight to start studying but there’s no way that’s happening. I really need to take a little “me time” to recharge a bit before going hard for the last week and a bit.

In general these posts have been very uninformative and I’d like to apologize. I honestly can’t think of anything to bring up other than the work… and work… and more work. Drop me a line if anyone out there in blog land wants me to talk about something specific. I don’t even know if people are even reading this thing.
