Initial Reaction on BlackBerry Chat
- Riz: Yeah, I'm killing my tumble blog right now.
- Tim: Noooooooo I heart the tunerds tumblr!!
- Riz: Dude, it's done. I have a new tumblr style blog with comments and data I own!
- Tim: Dang it.. How am I supposed to follow?
- Tim: And repost!
- Riz: Rss, copy and paste. You nerd.
- Tim: Boooo
- Tim: You might as well just have wp!
- Riz: Remember, I lead these changes (usually). Give it time and you'll do the same.
- Riz: Simple and open wins over closed and proprietary. It's just a matter of time before tumblr goes unless they open up as a platform.
- Tim: Tumblr was soo simple!
- Tim: I hearted it
- Riz: But not open.
- Tim: Now, I have to add another layer
- Riz: This is simple *and* open!
- Tim: I was at the heart of the tunerds empire!
- Tim: Simple for you, perhaps
- Riz: Bah. We'll see how it goes.
- Tim: You should've just written a scraper on a cron for tumblr
- Tim: I still heart tumblr
- Tim: Great templates too!
- Riz: Rip them off.
- Tim: Haha
Death To My Tumble Blog
Somethings have been bothering me since I started using tumblr:1. I don't own my data--it's not on my server.
2. No comments. No mater what anyone says, reblogging is a poor substitute.
Given the closed nature of tumblr, I couldn't remedy this problem. Following in T-mac's shoes, I tried chyrp. It's pretty swell as far as replicating everything tumblr does and allowing comments!!!! The only problem is that it doesn't support moblogging (e-mailing posts from my blackberry). At least until I wrote my own module. :)
So now it's death to my tumble blog, and probably to my wordpress blog.
If anyone wants me to post a tutorial/code for my module (which is kind of a hack but it works), post a comment. :) 02:54 PM | 5 Comments
